Tesco is sure to get the nation into the festive mood with this year’s Christmas advert named ‘Helping Feed Your Christmas Spirit’, which aired first on Irish TV last night.
This year’s ad taps into the key moments of the festive season, highlighting what nourishes our Christmas spirit and what might cause it to waver - ultimately offering a message of togetherness, nostalgia and joy centered around home, food and reconnecting with loved ones. Cherished traditions like enjoying a Christmas meal, snacking on leftovers, or sharing a celebratory drink nourish the Christmas spirit through the comfort of home traditions and familiar foods. As a nation, we love repeating previously treasured shared experiences, even if those traditions evolve over time.
Viewers follow Conor as his Christmas spirit explodes into the world around him after his grandfather hands him a pack of Tesco Gingerbread Men. As Conor’s spirit lifts, his local market square is transformed into a magical gingerbread landscape complete with a Nollaig Shona Duit billboard and buskers playing gingerbread instruments. However, we also see this magical world start to crumble as Conor’s Christmas spirit dips when he thinks about the absence of his grandmother at this special time. At the heart of the campaign is Conor’s journey to rekindle a cherished tradition of building a gingerbread house; something he used to do with his grandmother.
Suzanne Quinn, Customer Director, Tesco Ireland said: “Our aim with this year’s Christmas advert is to celebrate the beautiful moments that truly feed our Christmas spirit, while acknowledging that Christmas isn’t an easy time for everyone. Tesco is here to lend a helping hand throughout the festive season. Whether it’s the first bite of a Christmas sandwich, mince pie or gingerbread house, or our great value Clubcard offers with our customers’ budget in mind, we want to top up your Christmas spirit wherever we can.
Our Christmas grocery and non-food offering are arriving in stores across Ireland from now until the big day, and with quality and value at the heart of what we do, there’s something to suit all tastes and budgets. We hope the ad, and Tesco, help feed your Christmas spirit this year!”
Produced by Iconoclast and Alaska and set to the soundtrack of Dreams by The Cranberries, the advert aired on TV for the first time on Tuesday, November 12th.
