It is with great sadness that we inform you of Robert J. (Bob) Gallo's passing on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Bob was devoted to his family. He was Julio and Aileen Gallo's son and husband to Marie, his late wife. Bob lived to serve both GALLO and local causes. After graduating from Oregon State University in 1956 and serving for two years in the United States Navy, he spent his entire life in the family business.
With his strong interest in conservation issues, he was at the forefront of GALLO's commitment to sustainable agriculture. Under his leadership, GALLO worked collaboratively with the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers to draft and implement the Code of Sustainable Wine Growing Practices.
Bob was also a visionary leader who planned, built and established the Gallo Glass Company, which began operations in 1958. In addition, he was instrumental in our family acquiring the Louis M. Martini Winery, with its Monte Rosso Vineyard and MacMurray Ranch.
Bob's unwavering commitment to creating a better world was evident in everything he did. His innovative mind and compassionate, philanthropic spirit have left an indelible mark on GALLO, the wine industry and the community he lived in.
Our thoughts are with Bob's family and loved ones during this time. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in all that we do as we strive for excellence and embody his values.
