President Michael D Higgins planted a native holly tree in the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin to commemorate SPAR National Tree Day, which took place last month.
The initiative by the Tree Council of Ireland, supported by SPAR, encourages primary school children across the country to take the pledge and plant a tree. As part of this year’s campaign 1,500 Native Irish Holly tree saplings were sent to primary school children across the country to encourage them to connect directly with nature.
Pictured at the SPAR National Tree Day tree planting were: President Michael D. Higgins; Éanna Ní Lamhna, President of the Tree Council of Ireland; Brendan Fitzsimons, CEO of the Tree Council of Ireland; Siobhan Quinn, Administrator, the Tree Council of Ireland; Colin Donnelly, SPAR Sales Director; Julia & Krystyna O’Loughlin from 2nd & 3rd class in the Patrician Primary School, Newbridge, Co.
