Galway Ladies Gaelic Footballer Nicola Ward and Councillor Niall McNelis were the guests of honour to cut the ribbon and officially re-open Lidl’s newly refurbished store on Headford Road in Galway on Thursday morning. Crowds gathered early to be amongst the first shoppers through the door to enjoy opening day entertainment and exclusive in-store offers.
Lidl’s store on Headford Road was one of the retailer’s first stores to open in Ireland in 2000. The highly anticipated new and improved store offers customers an enhanced shopping experience throughout its expanded sales floor with high ceilings, wider aisle as well as five new self-service checkouts and a new tap and go coffee machine.
The first ten shoppers through the doors on Thursday received complimentary vouchers to shop Lidl’s renowned range of high-quality products at market-leading value, and huge savings on middle aisle favourites.
To mark the opening, the store team at Headford Road welcomed Arthur Carr and Deborah Carr from local charity Claddagh Watch to accept a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. The volunteer-led charity, founded in 2019, is dedicated to creating a safer environment around Galway city’s waterways through volunteer patrols and raising awareness.
Speaking at the opening of the store, Lidl Headford Road Store Manager Thomas Dunbar said:
“We’re delighted to be warmly welcomed back by the local community and it was amazing to see so many familiar faces through the door this morning. As proud supporters of Ladies Gaelic Football since 2016, we were thrilled to have Galway’s Nicola Ward cut the ribbon and join in the celebrations.
Lidl has proudly traded on Headford Road since 2000 and it’s been a proud moment for all involved to showcase our reinvestment into the local community with the re-opening of the newly refurbished store. We have welcomed 15 new colleagues to accommodate the larger operation, bringing our store team to more than 30 colleagues. The transformation of the store is astounding, and we can’t wait to welcome even more customers in to experience the new and improved features.”
Galway footballer and Lidl’s LGFA ambassador Nicola Ward said:
“It was an honour to join the Galway Headford Road store team today and officially re-opening the newly refurbished store. The atmosphere was brilliant, and it was very clear that Lidl was missed by local shoppers as the crowds came out in full force this morning. The store looks fantastic! I’d encourage everyone to come down and check it out!”
Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 180 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar, and Newbridge.
