Posted on: 09 Oct 2024

Lidl Ireland have been named the Most Sustainable Retailer and 3rd Most Sustainable Organisation overall in the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2024 study of 100 prominent organisations, carried out by The Reputations Agency. The position is the retailer’s highest placing since the study began in 2011 and underscores Lidl’s commitment to tangible action to fight climate change, protect the environment and build a better social and economic future for the next generation.

The Index, now in its thirteenth year, tracks the perceptions of more than 5,000 members of the public on 100 prominent organisations in Ireland and measures sixteen sustainability factors across Environmental Impact, Social Performance, Workplace and Conduct.

Speaking about Lidl’s placing in the Ireland RepTrak® Sustainability Index 2024 study, Robert Ryan, Chief Executive Officer, Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, commented: “We continue to take our responsibility to be good stewards of the environment extremely seriously, from construction to responsible sourcing to industry-leading recycling initiatives, our A Better Tomorrow sustainability strategy is fully embedded in all areas of our business.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. At Lidl, we continue to set ambitious goals and take tangible actions to mitigate these challenges and protect our planet for future generations because it’s the right thing to do. Today’s results reflect that these actions are resonating with the public as we remain true to our mission to offer customers the best value for money through simple and sustainable action.”

In May, Lidl was named the Most Reputable Retailer and 2nd Most Reputable Organisation overall in the Ireland RepTrak® 2024 study of 100 organisations. In addition, the retailer was named Ireland’s Most Emotionally Connected Retailer and Ireland’s 3rd Most Emotionally Connected Brand after Cadbury’s and Tayto in the Brand Reaction Index published by Red C, jumping 7 points to claim the top retailer spot in just one year.
