Applegreen Transforms its Midway Service Area with €3M Upgrade

Posted on: 17 Jul 2024

Applegreen, one of Ireland’s leading roadside hospitality retailers, has reopened its Midway service area in Portlaoise, which is located at exit 17 on the M7, following a €3 million investment.

Midway, which is also accessible from the N77 and R423, will now feature an M&S Food store within a store outlet as part of Applegreen’s exclusive partnership with the renowned UK retailer. The newly revamped location will also have a new Braeburn Coffee Café, a Bakewell deli, as well as Burger King, Chopstix, and Subway restaurants.

Applegreen is focused on delivering the best roadside experience for customers on their journey and aside from an extensive food offer, Midway now features restaurant style seating, a newly enhanced public space, and upgraded toilet facilities. A new driver exercise zone will also be installed at the site.

From today, the Applegreen at Midway will feature the best of M&S Food, including fresh fruit and salads, Irish sandwiches, convenient lunch and dinner options, and a selection of other iconic M&S favourites, such as Percy Pig sweets, M&S cookies, and Colin the Caterpillar cakes. The opening of the new Midway is the seventh new M&S Food outlet that Applegreen has delivered this year, and the thirteenth in total. This will be the first time that M&S Food products have been available in Co Laois.

In addition to the introduction of M&S Food in-store, the redeveloped Applegreen at Midway will provide a fully operational service-station forecourt for customers to relax and replenish as they enjoy their roadside journey. The Midway location offers plenty of food choices that can cater for the whole family, with exciting brands such as M&S Food, Burger King, Subway, Chopstix, a Bakewell and Braeburn Coffee Café.

Midway is the third Braeburn Coffee Café to be opened by Applegreen and features a new enhanced design concept. This follows successful openings in Rathcoole in Dublin, and in Ashbourne, Co Meath.

Applegreen’s €3 million investment in the Midway location redevelopment underscores the Irish company’s ongoing commitment to provide quality products and services to its customers on the go. Applegreen will employ a total 56 staff at Midway.

Applegreen Ireland Managing Director Fiona Matthews said:
