Posted on: 28 Nov 2024

ALDI’s new store in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, opened today, creating 30 new permanent jobs in the local community. The new store represents an investment of over €9.8 million in the area, bringing the total investment by ALDI in Offaly to €18.8 million since opening its first store in the county in 2000.

The store was officially opened today by Green Party Senator and Minister for State at the Department of Agriculture Pippa Hackett, Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District Cllr. Frank Moran and the local ALDI team, led by Store Manager Yasmin Rourke.

Located on O’Connell Street, the store becomes ALDI’s third in County Offaly and second store in Tullamore. The new Tullamore store is ALDI’s 163rd store in Ireland since first arriving here 25 years ago.

The store opened earlier this morning and has already proved popular, with many locals joining the ALDI team to celebrate the official opening.

Offaly Investment

Since opening its first Offaly store in Edenderry in 2000, ALDI has invested over €18.8 million in capital infrastructure in the county. The retailer employs over 76 people across its three stores in Offaly, spending over €1.5 million on wages annually. On top of this, last year ALDI spent an additional €23 million with its Offaly food suppliers.

At the opening of the new Tullamore store, Yasmin Rourke, the ALDI Tullamore Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to unveil ALDI’s second store in Tullamore today. This new store will deliver 30 new local jobs and is testament to our ongoing commitment to providing value, choice and convenience to our Offaly customers.

“This new store comes at a key time when Irish consumers continue to face high costs of living. The new ALDI store in Tullamore will offer a wide range of fresh, high-quality Irish produce at excellent value. We strive to provide the best shopping experience, and the spacious, modern design of our new Tullamore store makes it easy for customers to find everything they need, supported by our committed and hardworking team.”

Officiating at the official opening today, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett said:

“I’m delighted to officially open the new Tullamore store today, the third ALDI store in County Offaly and their second store in Tullamore. This is a significant investment in the region, and I believe it can ultimately prove to be a significant investment in Irish farmers too. ALDI has a long tradition of supporting Irish farmers, with all Bord Bia Quality Assured fresh meat, poultry and egg products delivered to stores daily. I have also been heartened to learn that ALDI’s Irish supply base continues to grow with over 330 Irish suppliers now, including a growing number of fruit and vegetable producers with a strong commitment to organic produce.

“The new Tullamore store creates valuable local employment opportunities for Offaly, supporting the economic growth of the area with high-quality, well-paid jobs. ALDI has led the way in committing to paying a living wage to all of its employees since 2020, and I wish all of the team here in Tullamore every success for the future.”

ALDI Tullamore

The spacious new 1,650sqm store features ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout, with wide aisles and high-spec fixtures and fittings. ALDI shoppers will have access to 91 car parking spaces, including nine electric vehicle charging spaces, and 22 bike parking spaces.

Additionally, ALDI has introduced self-service checkouts at select stores, including the brand-new Tullamore store, which will feature seven self-service checkout terminals. Existing staffed checkout lines will remain in operation alongside the new self-service tills, with ALDI committed to retaining this service for customers, while continuing to innovate with new initiatives.

The store has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. It is powered by 100% green electricity and features ALDI’s new electronic shelf labels in store in place of traditional paper price labels, meaning that stock or price changes can be quickly and easily communicated to customers.
